Paint & Coatings - Industrial New Business Development Professionals
Our Client….
….is a PCI Magazine top 50 Paint and Coatings company that is adding Sales / New Business Developers to their Industrial team. Our client offers a full range of liquid and powder options to their industrial client base to include:
- Polyurethanes
- Epoxies
- Acrylics
- Latex
- UV
The value differentiator that our client offers is that of high quality coatings that will enhance the value of their customer’s products plus application methods that will remove costs from the process.
They are looking for a junior level new business developer. Someone with 3-14 years of sales / new business development experience calling on industrial accounts, ideally in the Southeast. The person in this role will have the chance to be considered for their management development program.
What you will do:
1. As the new business developer, you will call on industrial / OEM clients in the Southeast. Examples include (but are not limited to):
- Office Furniture
- Off Road Equipment
- Metal Furniture
- Metal Building Components
- Lawn & Garden
- Storage Systems (shelving for example)
- Appliances
2. You will identify the key decision makers in the account and work to understand what their paint and coating needs are. This includes R&D, operations, engineering, purchasing and management.
3. Your goal will be to demonstrate how you can be a strategic partner with them by defining and selling the concept of value, not price. Some of the value-added differentiators that you have to offer include:
- Customized Paint and Coating Product Development
- Total Coatings Solutions
- Reduced Labor Costs (through ease of application)
- Improved Quality
- On-site Training and Technical Service
- Line Audits
- Understanding your Customer’s Business so that you help them remain on the leading edge within their markets
4. As the opportunity develops, you will have the chance to coordinate all of the activities in the selling process to include coordination of trials, deployment of corporate resources (and you will have plenty at your disposal), proposal development, contract negotiation and close.
5. At the end of the sales process, an account management team will take over the account to manage it on a day-by-day basis to ensure the operators are trained, problems are solved and on-going customer satisfaction is achieved.
6. This gives you, the new business developer, the opportunity to call on other accounts, drive new business and put $$ in your pocket as well as the company’s.

Requirements:
- 4 yr degree (additionally an MBA would be ideal since this is a Business Development position)
- Minimum of 2 years of coatings experience (ideally within the industrial sector - includes paint and coatings, pre-treatment, application equipment, etc. but other coatings experience may be considered)
- At least 3 years of industrial new business development / sales experience (not only would P&C experience work, but any other types of applications chemistry such as pulp & paper process, water treatment, adhesives, sealants, etc.)
- Proven track record of accomplishments and achievements
- Proven track record of developing large accounts
- Be able to provide a minimum of 3 references when requested
- Willingness to travel (2-3 nights per week of overnight travel)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial reports and legal documents
- In other words, you are a student of your profession, the Paint and Coatings industry
Territory is the Southeast so ideal locations for living include KY, TN, AL, GA, NC, SC.
